Basketball has always been a major part of Ann’s life! She loves competition, hard work, and
striving to be the best she can be, and hopes to instill those same qualities in her children and the
teams she coaches! Team sport – and basketball in particular – has enriched her life and taught
her many lessons about teamwork, resilience, leadership and commitment that she carries with
her today.

Ann represented Newfoundland and Labrador on numerous provincial basketball teams over the
years, including the NL Canada Games Women’s Basketball Team. She went on to play five
seasons with the Memorial University Sea-Hawks, earning AUS All-Star honours in each season
and helping Memorial win the 1999–2000 Atlantic University Sport Championship. During her
university career, she was named the 1996–97 AUS Rookie of the Year and to the CIS All-
Canadian Rookie Team. Ann was later selected by the CIS, as the female representative for all
sports in the AUS, to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Athletes of the Year/BLG Awards
program, recognizing outstanding athletic achievement, sportsmanship and leadership. She was
also inducted into Memorial’s All-Canadian Honour Society for outstanding athletic and
academic achievement over five years. In 1997, Ann was named the City of St. John’s Tom
“Dynamite” Dunne Athlete of the Year.

Ann has continued her involvement in basketball through coaching over the years, including the
St. Bonaventure’s College High School Girls Basketball Team, and she is currently coaching her
son’s Grade 5 Boys Basketball Team at Rennie’s River Elementary. She is excited to coach her
daughter and the U10 team with St. John’s Minor Basketball and, most importantly, to help
young players develop their work ethic, skills, drive, and competitive and team spirit, while
building a lifelong love of the game!
